“Stockholm Junior Water Prize-2016” – A Mesmerizing Experience

Actually, to say about SJWP and SJWPBD, it’s a water science project competition for the youths of 15 to 20 years in Bangladesh and beyond. This was the second time that Bangladesh was participating in this international event. To begin with, I extend my sincere gratitude to HoV (House of Volunteers Foundation Bangladesh ) and WaterAid Bangladesh  and BUET to help me to participate in one of the prestigious events of the world. Through this competition, it is noticeable that how the other countries of the world along with Bangladesh is contributing to solve water related problems.

In the competition, writing a scientific paper was quite an important job for the participants. As I had no prior experiences of writing such a paper, I took help of my father, Engr. Md. Aktaruzzaman Bhuiyan, who also guided me through the whole event other than writing the paper. And the paper was revised and reviewed by some of the experts in the relevant field. Prof. Tanvir Ahmed sir was one of the persons who helped me out to write the paper.

Now, though I have heard of the competition before, I was still not sure what was coming up. But the competition was beyond of my expectations starting with going to Stockholm, staying in the hotel with 52 participants from 29 countries, attending a dinner with H.E. the Prince of Sweden at Grand Hotel and a Royal Banquet with the King and Queen at the Stockholm City Hall where the noble laureates are given away their noble prizes every year and much more. And this year was their 20th Annual competition. All these were beyond my imagination.

The future belongs to the kids of today. And they are the pioneer of the upcoming world. But there lacks a scope of innovating something new in Bangladesh and to think of something different. And SJWPBD has made that platform for the young minds to contribute something in the field of water and to solve the present and upcoming water related problems. To do so, it is needed to have       much more participation in SJWPBD and at the same time expanding and promoting the competition up to the farthest corners of Bangladesh.

Moments I will always cherish: In Bangladesh, the most pleasurable moment was when the result was announced. Other than this, I got opportunities of visiting BUET very often. And I also met with H.E. the Ambassador of Sweden.

The five days in Sweden will be the most memorable days in my life. I was so warmly welcomed in the competition that I have never been before. The friends that I made will be the lifelong friends. I have seen the most generous and polite people in Stockholm. The time I have spent there will always be in my memories.

I hope, the project that I have presented will be a medium for the purification of water for the people of both rural and urban area. And I think, people should start working for the purification of water and participate in SJWPBD to go forward easily.

Lastly, I hope that everyone would be conscious regarding not only water but also other factors related to environment. No matter what you do, do something good.

(Special thanks to – my father Engr. Md. Aktaruzzaman Bhuiyan; My mother Beauty Aktar; My teacher Animesh Sir; My Principal Bro. Robi; Prof.Tanvir Ahmed Sir of BUET; Shovon bhaia, Shihab bhaia, Fariha Apu and all out there who made me feel myself so much honored through this competition.)

 Thank you very much.
