Life is all about opportunities. Human life is very short but very diverse. Opportunities bring diversity. Therefore, one must grab opportunities to follow his passion.I was born in a small village but had big dreams. I have been very curious since my childhood, and I found that only science can quench my thirst. I was a troubled child who was doing experiments with the available resources in a family in need. But poverty couldn’t separate me from my passion. In middle school, I participated in all the science fairs and Olympiads in my district and won most of them, proving my passion for science to my family. My passion led me to the Stockholm Junior Water Prize 2023-BDI can remember countless sleepless nights going through research papers, developing my project idea, and finding resources. My hard work paid off when our project was announced first (3. Our wining photos). I couldn’t believe that I got to represent my country in this prestigious international event. But success comes at the cost of sacrifice. The event date crossed over with my H.S.C. exams. I couldn’t sleep thinking about what to do. That night, my mother told me to follow my dream. I choose passion over my board exams. I was feeling excited, nervous, and proud at the same time.Upon arrival at the Arlanda International Airport in Stockholm, Sweden, I was warmly welcomed by one of the organizers there. His name was Tapish; he was an Indian, and we got along very quickly. We were directly taken to the venue (5. Venue picture) because we were already late for the i-poster practice. I was in group 1, and my interview was on the next day! I was nervous at first, but my national organizer, Samad sir, calmed me down by giving me the proper advice. In the evening, I and other participants had some get-together sessions. The next day, I was prepared for the interview. The judges were very welcoming. I delivered my presentation and answered all the questions. We were judged by six judges three different times. In between, there was a short break. And Samad sir (6. Me with samad sir and his wife) took me for a walk to relax my brain a little bit (7. Old buildings). He was with me the whole time of the judgment day. He was there to support me and guide me whenever I needed something, and I am always grateful to him for that. After the interviews, I was relaxed and finally got to enjoy the beauty of Stockholm (8. Beauty of Sweden). Sweden has a different biome than that of our tropical one. It was chill and the day was longer by 4 hours than night at that time. I liked the Nordic designs and architecture (9. Nordic design). Sweden is rich in its historical values (10.1,2,3,4 historical pictures). One thing I noticed there was the freedom. It was everywhere, whether you are man or woman, white or black, (11. Me with the black Swedish man) whether you are of a different cast or believe everyone is living freely there. Another thing I realized is that all of us are made out of the same blood, bones, and flesh. No matter which part of the world you live in. We are one great creature called a human, capable of endless possibilities. On the 3rd day, we went for a city walk where we were delighted by the golden past of old Sweden(12. Photos). And every evening we played networking games. I made international friends from all around the globe. We played late-night Uno cards! I get to know about their different culture, taste, and their way of life. The food was a new experience for me. It was not rich in flavours like the southern part of Asia but it was pretty good.On the 4th day the big moment we all have been waiting for arrived. 31 nation’s top high-school innovators participated with their brilliant projects. I was confident with my project. We rehearsed the ceremony on the previous day. Before the award-giving ceremony, we got to meet with the future queen and crown princess Victoria of Sweden (13. Photo with the princess). I still can’t believe that I met a crown princess. She was so lovely and welcoming. At the ceremony I was nervous, and my heart stopped beating for a while. I felt honored when I was handed my country's national flag, the red and green of Bangla, and the only flag I serve my life to (14. Me with my flag). After a long wait, the moment came. Unfortunately, I couldn’t win the international round! It was a tough moment. I couldn’t smile neither could cry. Samad sir hugged me and motivated me. But all that was going through my head was that I failed my country! I called my mother, she told me that she was happy that her son could reach at least the top from a place where poverty strikes every day. I might have lost but haven’t given up yet. With new determination in mind to triumph in any upcoming research event by working my heart and soul.Along this journey, I get to meet with so many incredible people the king and queen of Sweden, the crown princess of Sweden, the world’s leading water scientists, patent holders, top innovators, the Swedish ambassador of Bangladesh, BUET’s amazing teachers, the organizer's team and last but not least friends for life from all-around the world ( I don’t have these photos if you can collect it from different sources!).On the last day of the event, we went to Skansen, a park where one can witness the 200-year-old life of Sweden and the magnificent scenery of Stockholm (15. All the parks photos). In the evening we get to have a royal dinner in the presence of their majesties the king and queen of Sweden (16. All the dinner photo). The Stockholm Water Prize was given to the laureate Andrea Rinaldo of Italy that evening. I was delighted to witness the cultural diversity of Sweden. After the royal dinner at the hotel, we shared some emotional moments because it was our last day together (17. All the photos with international participants). I am blessed to have such an opportunity in my life. I am forever grateful to everyone involved in the Stockholm Junior Water Prize-2023 for making such a life-changing experience possible.
