Voluntary Organization House of Volunteers Foundation Bangladesh and WaterAid Bangladesh jointly organized Bangladesh Stockholm Junior Water Prize 2016, a water science project eligible for 15 to 20-year-old school and college students. Award giving ceremony held on 3rd June 2016 from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Daily Star Seminar room. Meanwhile, the day-long competition already took place on 20 May 2016 at ITN Seminar Room, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.
Bakhtiar Zaman Bhuiyan from St. Joseph High School qualified for the prestigious competition after emerging national champion in Bangladesh Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWPBD) with his “Purification of Drinking Water using Coconut Shell-based activated Carbon” project. The event was graced by Dr. MOHAMMAD MONOWAR HOSSAIN, Executive Director, Institute of Water Modelling (IWM) as the Guest of Honor and Dr. Khairul Islam, Country Representative of WaterAid Bangladesh, as special guest. The winning team will get a chance to represent Bangladesh in Sweden during the World Water Week from 28th August, 2016 to 2nd September 2016.
8 teams consisting of 22 participants from various schools and colleges participated for the final round of Bangladesh Stockholm Junior Water Prize-2016. A jury panel of 7 members, from Bangladesh University of Science And Technology, WaterAid Bangladesh and various researchers supervised the competition. Supervisions involve project paper submission, Information sharing and showcasing with leading 60 institutions, mentoring session, grooming session, preliminary screening for Finalist selection, poster presentation and jury interview.
